Subscription vs Subscription Order - What’s the difference?

A Subscription refers to the overall global settings for the subscription and all the recurring items within it. The status of a subscription is located at the top of the Subscription Page.
A Subscription order refers to the processed or scheduled backlog of upcoming orders, and the status is located at the top of a specific Subscription Order.

Active
Default status. Subscription has been created and upcoming orders are scheduled.
Update delivery date, skip order, modify products, change frequency, pause, or cancel. Useful for adjusting the subscription before the next order processes.
Paused
Order processing is paused and no orders will be processed. Customers can resume anytime and select their next order date.
Resume subscription
Pending Cancellation
Subscription is scheduled to be cancelled on a selected future date. Orders will continue to be processed until that date has been reached.
Revert Cancellation Cancel Immediately
Cancelled
Subscription is fully stopped; no future orders will be processed. Past orders are viewable.
Restore subscription. Useful if the customer wants to restart their subscription; no new orders will appear until restored.

Scheduled
Subscription order is scheduled but hasn’t yet come up to its processing day/time.
Edit next delivery date, skip order, modify products
Processed
Subscription order has passed its payment date and payment has been attempted.

Build Failed / Flagged
Subscription order was flagged when it was attempted to be processed.
View the order to see the specific reason for why the order was flagged, correct the issue and then retry payment.
Skipped
The order was skipped by either the customer or the Submarine UI, no payment was attempted.

Payment Statuses

Status
Description
Actions Available
Pending
Temporary status. All scheduled orders yet to have a payment attempt will be in Pending (this includes Skipped or Paused status orders)
Process the subscription order.
Submitted
Transient status. This is the status of the payment when we have requested the charge to Shopify Payments it should only show for a minute at most.

Finalising
Transient status. Payment was successful, and we're receiving the information back from Shopify Payments to finalise the charge. It should only show for a minute at most.

Failing
Temporary status. Payments failed and but has payment retries left.
Manually retry payment Wait for the retry policy to automatically retry payment
Failed
Terminal status. Payment was unable to capture and has no more payment retries left. The order has now been skipped due to exhausted retry attempts.

Terminal status. Payment capture was successful.
